PROGRAM

RI President
DK Lee: "Make Dreams Real"
This year
Rotary International will welcome
the Presidency of D.K. Lee
to the voluntary service organisation’s highest
international office, continuing on a tradition of yearly
presidential rotations stemming back over 100 years.
Bringing with him the theme "Make
Dreams Real", President-Elect Lee will visit
Australia and provide local Rotarians with his vision for Rotary’s
contribution to a better future for the world’s children.
The City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor,
The Right Honourable John So
will be our special guest for the evening, and
will formally welcome Rotary International President D.K. Lee to
this wonderful city.
The event at
Melbourne’s Crown Casino
on the 9th
of July
is expected to attract a vast number of Rotarians.
The function will open at 5:30pm for a 5:45pm commencement and will
conclude at 7:30pm. The cost will be $45 per person.
Rotarians and Invitees will be offered the
opportunity to meet and mingle with President-Elect Lee and local
Rotary heads to discuss practical ways of making dreams real through
attacking the issues of
water, health and hunger, and literacy.
The event will also feature practical examples of
Rotary’s efforts to improve the lives of children locally, with
The Garden Gurus,
Trevor Cochrane and Neville Passmore, joining with kids from
Richmond kindergarten to demonstrate a
Vertical Garden
- one of the initiatives
Rotary Australia
and Mitre 10
partnered together upon for
Fix Up Australia Weekend.
The Vertical Garden concept encourages kids to grow their own
healthy gardens, bringing with them the impetus to follow a healthy
lifestyle.
In 2008-2009 the opportunity is there to make dreams
real –and doubtlessly Rotarians from throughout Victoria and beyond
will be looking forward to hearing Rotary International President
(08-09) D.K. Lee’s inspiring words on just how each one of us can
contribute to a practical effort on a global scale.
Rotary International President-Elect
D.K. Lee.

Last Week's
Meeting
RC Southbank Presidential
Changeover Dinner
Last week's meeting was the
Rotary Club of Southbank Presidential Changeover Dinner held at the
Willows Restaurant on St Kilda Road. Drinks were served from
6.00 pm and some guests were already arriving even before that,
which was great because they could then have a few more drinks and
canapés before the dinner. For those in the know (those who
read the Bulletin!), spirits were also served during this time. ...

Young Achievement Australia (YAA) 2008
The Rotary Club of Southbank is, once again, supporting the
mentoring of a group of students in the YAA program.
We are partnering with the RC Melbourne to fund and provide mentors
for this very worthwhile youth development program. This is an
important project for our Club and we want to make sure that we are
well represented with mentors.
The timeframe for the program has yet to be set, however it is
anticipated that it will commence after Easter.
This year our YAA company will have a convenient meeting location,
in the heart of the city, at:
The CASS Foundation
Level 2, 111 Collins Street
If you are interested in participating as a mentor,
please contact
Gordon.
Please note: all mentors will be required to
have a
'Working with Children' card - see Gordon for details.

DG Jim Studebaker's Weekly Message
(Issue 1, 1 July 2008)
July
is
Change Over Month
"Rising to the Challenge"
The philosophy that "the whole is
greater than the sum of its parts" is no truer than in Rotary
International ... an organisation whose success has come about
by doing more together than as individuals. However, without
individuals, Rotary could not exist as a "whole" and it could
not play such an important role on the world stage.
As we move into a new Rotary
year, rising to the challenge that our Rotary International
President, DK Lee, has set for every Club to increase its
membership by 10% must be a major focus. Each club must have
sufficient members so that the Club as a "whole" can have a more
powerful impact on the communities it serves through critically
needed projects and activities. ...
