President Gabe's Message

DG Jim's message in The Networker suggests that "the honeymoon is over"; I am not so sure.  For Southbank, I don't believe we had a "honeymoon" period - nor did we need it.  This Rotary year, we hit the ground running!  Our first event this year - the Presidential Changeover Dinner - was both a fundraising and a fellowship event.  On the very first day of this Rotary year, Southbank raised over $5,000 to kick start the year.  This was followed by a good attendance at the D K Lee cocktail party and the Club Plan and Club Assembly to follow.  But it wasn't all just turning up at meetings. ...

Changes to the Bulletin

Welcome to our new Editor

Please join us in welcoming Bettina Harlos as our new Editor - she will begin her editorial role in the coming editions of The Southbanker (or whatever we'll call it next?).  I am sure Bettina will bring a breath of fresh air to this already exciting publication.

Please note that Next Week's Meeting (5 August) will be at the MCEC.  More details to come.

Young Achievement Australia (YAA) 2008

The Rotary Club of Southbank is, once again, supporting the mentoring of a group of students in the YAA program.

We are partnering with the RC Melbourne to fund and provide mentors for this very worthwhile youth development program.  This is an important project for our Club and we want to make sure that we are well represented with mentors.  The timeframe for the program has yet to be set, however it is anticipated that it will commence after Easter.

This year our YAA company will have a convenient meeting location, in the heart of the city, at:
The CASS Foundation
Level 2, 111 Collins Street

If you are interested in participating as a mentor,
please contact Gordon.

Please note:  all mentors will be required to have a
'Working with Children' card - see Gordon for details.

DG Jim Studebaker's Weekly Message

(Issue 4, 21 July 2008)
July is Change Over Month
"Fundraising & Leadership"

In the parlance of a recently elected politician or first season AFL coach…. ‘the honeymoon is over and it’s time to get to work’.

The many good projects of Rotary certainly emanate from inspiration, planning fellowship and organisation. But in many cases the ultimate dreams can’t be met without an organised program of acquiring and distributing funds. Fundraising is often the "real" part of Making Dreams Real’. ...
