Last Week's
Meeting
Club Plan
We had a wonderful talk from
AG Alan Seale from RC Central Melbourne-Sunrise who spoke to us
about the RAPT (Rotary ANZAC Peace Tour) to Turkey run by the Rotary
Club of Gosku.
For anyone who was looking at going it certainly looks like a
fantastic way to go visit the Gallipoli commemorative ceremony and
get a great insight into the Gallipoli history which is very well
hosted by local Rotarians. ...

Gabe's Message
Our Club has had many great projects in the past and some of them
are still ongoing. In some cases, these well established
ongoing projects are not well known to our newer members. This
is, of course, not by design ... there is no intention to keep this
information from newer members. I think this is a good
opportunity to remind all of us what some of our projects involve.
For example, many of our members have signed up for the Hanover/Maslow
BBQ, and it is one of our Club's great hands-on projects. ...

Young Achievement Australia (YAA) 2008
The Rotary Club of Southbank is, once again, supporting the
mentoring of a group of students in the YAA program.
We are partnering with the RC Melbourne to fund and provide mentors
for this very worthwhile youth development program. This is an
important project for our Club and we want to make sure that we are
well represented with mentors.
The timeframe for the program has yet to be set, however it is
anticipated that it will commence after Easter.
This year our YAA company will have a convenient meeting location,
in the heart of the city, at:
The CASS Foundation
Level 2, 111 Collins Street
If you are interested in participating as a mentor,
please contact
Gordon.
Please note: all mentors will be required to
have a
'Working with Children' card - see Gordon for details.

"A Great Partnership ... Getting
Better"
After a chance
encounter with a Chinese student at Columbia University, a young
YMCA secretary Harry Edmonds was seized by the importance of
cross-cultural understanding and mutual respect between people
of different races. His vocational experience meant that he was
able to identify a significant lack of suitable accommodation
for foreign students and he dreamt of improving the situation.
He took his vision of founding a multicultural college of
American and overseas students to philanthropist John D.
Rockefeller and, as a result, the first International House was
opened on Riverside Drive, New York in 1924. The success of the
New York International House led to similar establishments in
Paris (1925), California (1930), Chicago (1932) and Tokyo
(1925). ...
