Last Week's Meeting

Another entertaining and informative meeting was held on Tuesday night....
Our guest speaker was Caz Coleman from Hotham Mission. Caz was an excellent speaker and is the Project Director of the Hotham Mission Asylum Seeker Project. She enlightened us on the incredible difficulties and frustrations that face asylum seekers....
Next week Philip will have 4 sensational wines (including the sensational Heathcote Shiraz – a mighty fine drop) for tasting .....

President Gabe's Message

Lyn, Richard Gill and the Banner Lady Team, lead a very successful event at Club 3004 on Thursday night which, amongst other things, promoted Southbank. In addition to raising over $1,000 for Southbank, we have also identified a number of potential members, some of whom will be coming to our club next week. Of course, Lyn and Richard Gill didn’t do that all by themselves.....

Club 3004 Fundraising Night

Thanks to our member Lyn Gill and her business
The Banner Lady

our Southbank Rotary Club was provided with an excellent opportunity for fundraising and New Member Marketing last Thursday, 04th September 2008.
Club 3004 networking meetings are held monthly at the club’s official home, Ormond Hall in St. Kilda and are sponsored by a different company each month.
September’s Sponsor Lyn -The Banner Lady- offered us a unique chance to mix with almost 200 guests, raise some funds selling books and toys and connect with potential new Rotary members…and it worked!

Read more about it in this weeks presidents message.

A big THANK you to Lyn who had this great idea!

DG Jim Studebaker's Weekly Message

(Issue 10, 1 September 2008)
September is
New Generations Month

"Our District - Our Responsibility"

While District 9800 is small in geographical terms when compared to the geographical areas covered by most Australian Rotary Districts, numerically we are Australia’s largest district boasting 69 clubs and almost 3,000 members.
Large District... large responsibility. But even more than that, District 9800 is comprised largely of metropolitan clubs. This is unlike many other Rotary districts, such as D9790, where the concentration of rural clubs is greater. Our rural clubs stretch from the north-western metropolitan border of Melbourne to the Murray River at Echuca Moama. The most ‘outer’ of these are those clubs in the Goldfields.
Together with Carol, I recently spent a number of days in the Goldfields cluster area, talking to Rotarians and trying to understand the issues and concerns that confront their communities. And so it is the rural area of our District I would like to write about this week....
