Last Week's Meeting

RC SOUTHBANK’S
4TH ANNUAL THANKSGIVING PICNIC

Despite early planning of our 4th Annual Thanksgiving Picnic, the Weather Bureau was uncooperative on the day. As the date for our picnic approached, the weather forecasts grew steadily worse. After much discussion and the storing of two rather large turkeys, it was decided that we should change the venue to avoid the rain, wind and cold.....

(Click here for full scribe notes)

President Gabe's Message

There may have been some confusion for this past week or so as we had the Thanksgiving Picnic, then no meeting on the following Tuesday. The decision was made back in July at the first Board meeting. I suggested that the meeting before on 25 November be moved to the Thanksgiving Picnic (which was a formal meeting of the Club) because this is the final week before the start of the Homeless World Cup (HWC), and I was expecting that we might want a break before it happens. With a third of the Club volunteering for the HWC, plus partners and family and friends, .....

RC Southbank Christmas Dinner

PLEASE JOIN US FOR RC SOUTHBANK’S BOOT SCOOTIN’ CHRISTMAS PARTY
ON TUESDAY 16TH DECEMBER AT THE MEC

You are invited to wear your Sunday best jeans, boots and ten gallon hats!
Joining us will be Josie Clark who will be teaching gen-u-ine line dances to the beat of Country Western music.
In addition to this year’s festivities will be a KRIS KRINGLE. Each member who will be attending the party will be given another (attending) members name and asked
to buy an EXTRAVAGENTLY INDULGENT gift for that person. Since indulgence is different things to different people it will be fun to see what gifts we choose for our
fellow Rotarians! The limit on this extravagance is $15, which should bring out the creativity in all of us. Each gift should be wrapped and include a gift card with your
recipient’s name. The KRIS KRINGLE gift should be brought to the meeting on 9th December. If you cannot attend that meeting please let us know.
We need to know if you will be joining us no later than COB Friday, 28th November. Guest space is strictly limited and will be available on a first in, best dressed basis.

You will receive your KRIS KRINGLE recipient’s name by 30th November -- in plenty of time to plan your INDULGENCE!
The cost of the party is $60 per person including beverages and dinner.
Please note that while western dress is optional, be sure your shoes have leather soles. Rubber soles don’t slide on the dance floor and can result in injury while boot scootin’.

RSVP by COB Friday 28th November
to bobbi.lehman-horn@rotary.to

Melbourne Races - Call for Marshals!

Summer is coming and so are all the races that need volunteers to make them happen!

RC Southbank has a tradition of sending Sprint Marshals to help with a variety of roles during these competitions. This is not just a fantastic opportunity for our Club to raise some money it is also a great Fellowship Event.

If you are an early starter (marshal duty normally begins around 6am in the morning), enjoy sports and a day out, this is the kind of activity to go for!

Please have a look at the dates below and get in touch with Richard if you are available for any of them.

Christmas Shopping and Fundraising

We have some great ideas for you to combine the search for presents with helping others.

WILL YOU HELP END POLIO THIS CHRISTMAS?
Since 1985, ending polio has been Rotary’s top philanthropic goal. Since then, polio cases have been slashed by 99 percent worldwide. While most of the world is polio-free, this vaccine-preventable disease still threatens children in parts of Africa and South Asia.

You can help eradicate Polio throughout the world by purchasing a Polio Challenge 1.2kg Rich Fruit Cake with 50% fruit. Proceeds from the sale of this cake go to support the Rotary International Polio Eradication Program.

Wine supplied by Sandro Audino. Most of you would know about the fantastic fundraising we have been doing through wine promotion and as we are now in Spring Carnival season and with Christmas and holidays not too far way, this is a great opportunity for you to stock up.

Those of you who have read the article about our successful event at Club 3004 a couple of weeks ago will remember that we had some very special Children's Books, Aussie Bush Buddies by Maxine Philp-Wright, for sale.

Relish is a project of the St. Kilda Rotary Club. The Recipe Book includes recipes from local Melbourne Bayside restaurants and cafes, with the proceeds of sales going to Sacred Heart Mission and ShelterBox.

DG Jim Studebaker's Weekly Message

(Issue 22, 24 November 2008)
November is Foundation Month
"A future visionWhy do we have a Foundation?"

I am really pleased to report that this week, we have hosted the first Club Vision Facilitation Program in Australia.
It was great to welcome Steve Wilcox and Joe Kovarik from District 5960 (Minnesota & Wisconsin) to Melbourne. Steve and Joe are the founders of the Club Vision Facilitation program and they joined 20 Rotarians including 5 from District 9800 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to begin the training for our District along with Districts 9500, 9520, 9550, 9790, 9810, 9820 and 9830.
The program helps individual clubs define who they are, what they stand for, and what they intend to do; anything and everything is an opportunity.
Clubs are made up of many talented personalities all supporting one cause…
