Crown Towers Hotel

PROGRAM

At this meeting our president Gabe will lead us through Rotary's Four-Way-Test

The Four-Way Test

In 1932, Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created The Four-Way Test, a code of ethics adopted by Rotary 11 years later. The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions:

Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Bushfire Recovery -
What DS9800 is doing.

As with all Victorians our District has been profoundly saddened and touched by the tragedy of the Victorian Bushfires.

Rotarians, corporate supporters, Friends of Rotary and members of the public can make donations to the “Rotary International D 9800 Bushfire Recovery Fund”, BSB Number 013 345, Account Number 2521 12703 (Swift code ANZBAU3M)at any ANZ Bank.
Cash donations enable us to support the changing needs of bushfire victims as time goes on.  Recognizing that there are already many Non-Government Organizations working in affected areas, this medium to long-term period will be the main focus of Rotary’s efforts.
For more information on the fund, which has been authorized for official fundraising, please contact
bushfirehelp@rotarydistrict9800.org.au

Please read more about Rotary's approach to help the bushfire victims in this week's Networker and our President's Message.

President Gabe's Message

The Wild Fire that has devastated Victoria has left a trail of destruction and despair in the wake of its fury. Many lives were lost in a most terrifying way and more than 7,000 people have lost their homes. In the media, we hear that the Red Cross is doing much to assist the victims of a disaster which occurred only a week ago as I write to you. You have probably heard very little, if anything, about what Rotary is doing. That is because, so far, we have not been at the forefront to assist the victims.
Rotary has traditionally taken a low-profile when assisting those in need and so, whilst the disaster is in the media, at the forefront of everyone's mind and already well supported by other organizations, we leave it to those who are better equipped to co-ordinate,  ....

Last Week's Meeting

Our Chairman for the meeting Carl Kelson warmly welcomed and introduced our guest speaker, Johanna de Vries, a Youth Outreach Specialist from Open Family Australia. Carl told us that he had known Johanna and her family since Johanna was a little girl and so was personally pleased to be introducing her.

Johanna’s talk was inspiring and passionate; the content hit a strong chord with members and guests present. A summary of her remarkable story follows.......

The Rotary Club of Williamstown
will hold a
Dinner Dance in the Williamstown Town Hall
on Saturday 28th February

to celebrate the 60th Anniversary
of it receiving its Charter from Rotary International in 1949.

RC Williamtown was chartered by the Rotary Club of Footscray and,  in turn, chartered the Rotary Clubs of Altona & Point Gellibrand.
They have a  proud record of serving others less fortunate than ourselves through a wide range of local, national and international projects and feel that they have much to celebrate and intend to do so in style.

The dinner dance will be a wonderful night of celebration, fine food and outstanding entertainment. Music will be provided by the Williamstown RSL Pipe Band, The Rathdowne Street Big Band and the popular Wendy Stapleton. We can assure you of a fun filled night for only $100 a head, all inclusive.
The evening will show case Rotary but is not just for Rotarians. It will be a community event with a wide cross section of people, including the Mayor of Hobsons Bay and DG Jim Studebaker & Carol attending.

Further details are available on the attached flyer. If you  would like to attend please contact Murray Verso, Yvonne Moon or Chris James before 20th February.

DG Jim Studebaker's Weekly Message

(Issue 29, 09 February 2009)
February is World Understanding Month
"Supporting Our Fire Ravaged Communities"

This week I am particularly proud to be both a Victorian and a Rotarian. The energy with which all have responded to the bushfire crisis has been both astounding and inspirational. The absolute support from around the globe is also heart warming.
I appreciate the way our District and sister Districts have responded to my message earlier this week. It’s great to know that we are all working in tandem to do what we do best.
This week’s Networker outlines the initiatives and undertakings of our District’s response......
