President Gabe's
Message
District conferences have
always been a fantastic way for Rotarians to recharge their Rotary
batteries. The 77th District conference of Disctrict 9800 is no
exception. So far, we have had a wonderful line up of speakers from
comedians to professors, from professional speakers to police
officers. It is not the variety of speakers that is making such an
impression on delegates but the quality of those speakers. In short,
they are supurb.
How do I know they are supurb? That’s easy – at the end of the day:......

Mark this date in your
Calender and join us for the annual State Championship of the
Street Socceroos at Docklands on Sunday 22nd March.

The Street Soccer Championships are a
chance for players to demonstrate their courage, determination
and commitment to making positive changes in their lives.
Sunday March 22
4pm – Semi Finals

4.50pm – Medal Presentation
With the Homeless World
Cup in Milan, Italy coming up in September 2009 Street Soccer
players all around Australia get ready to win one of the few

player attitudes and more social qualities are being put to
the test.

program go to
The Big Issue website

Lions
Eye Health Program (LEHP)
At our meeting on Tuesday
February 3rd Ian Bjorkman & Mr. Rodger Bud
of the Lions Club of Wheelers Hill shared some interesting
information with us about the Lions Eye Health Program.
The Lions Eye Health Program is a community awareness program
to prevent unnecessary vision impairment. Vision impairment
costs Australia in the vicinity of AUD 1.8 billion per annum.
Early intervention is key in order to reduce vision
impairment, and symptoms are usually noticed when it is too
late and damage has been done.
The Board has decided to give our colleagues from the Lions
club some support with their program:
If you have any old spectacles you would like to donate
please bring them along to the next Club Meetings. Rhys
will collect them and hand them over to the Lions Club to be
used where needed.
(Read more about the LEHP program on Lions Website)
DG's ChangeOver

be held on Saturday, 27 June from 7pm at the Melbourne Park Function
Centre beside the Rod Laver Stadium.
The Rotary Club of Hawthorn will be hosting the event.
Please contact David Pisterman on 0418 345 607 for further
information.
DG Jim Studebaker's Weekly Message
(Issue 33, 9 March 2009)
March is World Literacy Month
"Rebuilding our Communities"
Gill Hicks was the last person
to be rescued from her train in the London bombings of July 2005.
Losing both her legs in the incident and coming perilously close
to losing her life, Gill faced a battle few of us can imagine. But
her recovery forms just part of the story that makes Gill so
remarkable.
As Victoria’s most recently retired Chief Commissioner of Police,
Christine Nixon’s anti-corruption stance and willingness to
modernise the way policing is conducted in Victoria has not been
short of challenges or controversies.
Our District, along with District 9810 is lucky enough to have
both Gill and Christine share their stories at a luncheon at The
Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre on Thursday, 16th
April.......
