PROGRAM

The special guest speaker that night will be Gemma Sisia, director
and founder of the School of St. Jude in Tanzania who is
currently touring around Australia to promote their program.
In 2002 a young lady, Gemma Rice
(now Gemma Sisia), from a sheep farm in Australia, opened a small
school in Northern Tanzania with the help of her family, friends and
local Rotary Club.
What
started with only a handful of children and one teacher is now a
thriving school of 1151 children, 130 teachers and 200 staff. In
January 2008 another free primary school with an initial enrolment
of over 550 children opened. These schools really have the potential
to influence the quality of Tanzania's future leaders.

Jude on their
website and follow Gemma's Tour

President Gabe's
Message
Gaby joined us as our newest member and we all wish her a wonderful
Rotary experience in our club.
Introducing and inducting a new member into Rotary is not just
important to the health of a Rotary club, the health of Rotary
International. Indeed, that is not the reason why we want people to
join Rotary. We ask people to join Rotary because that act of asking
someone to join is, in itself, a community service. We are asking
prospective members to join so they can help us better serve the
community. We offer them, in return, an opportunity to serve the
community in the unique Rotary way - by offering our fellowship, our
ideals of service and, of course, our friendship. It is arguably
more important for us to find new members than to do projects
ourselves, because we only have one pair of hands but there is no
limit to how many others you can bring to help do Rotary's good
work.....

May is Australian Rotary Health Research Month
"Continuing to Support Bushfire
Recovery"
It is important to bring our
clubs and members up to date with what has been happening with our
involvement in the bushfire recovery program and where we are
heading.
Earlier this week, our D9800 Bushfire Recovery Chairman Mev
Connell, PP Greg Matthews of the RC North Balwyn and I visited the
townships of Marysville and Kinglake and met with volunteer
organisations in both towns to discuss ways in which our Rotary
District may assist with helping the recovery efforts in those two
badly affected areas. The following are extracts of a report
written by Mev Connell last week........
