Last Week's Meeting

What a great meeting we had last week.  Air Cdre Peter Newton (Ret'd) was scheduled as speaker but was unfortunately unable to visit us at the last minute.  Peter was very kind and thoughtful and asked (at the last minute) Anthea Swann, Ryder-Cheshire Foundations Secretary for Australia and Victoria to tell us about their project, Raphael, in India. ...

The Big Issue
Street Soccer National Championships
 

The National Championships will be held Sunday 19th July at Cultural Forecourt, Brisbane Southbank

The event will be launched at the Homeless Connect on 27 May with the objective of driving spectators and possible participation in the Corporate Cup.

Homeless Connect brings together Brisbane City Council, state government, businesses and community groups to provide free services to homeless people for a day.
So far it has helped over 2300 homeless people.
The first Homeless Connect event was held on 1 November 2006 at City Hall, Brisbane. It was the first of its kind in Australia.

Brisbane City Council will be sponsoring the Championships. If you have any corporate contacts in Brisbane who you think may be interested in participating in the corporate cup, please forward the attached flier to them.

Bushfire Support Activities


 

District 9800 Bushfire Recovery Project  sponsors The Kids Foundations Burn Survivor Network for one of their burn survivors Family camps, Camp Phoenix. Camp Phoenix will be held from 23rd - 26th August 2009 in Anglesea. Find more about the Kids Foundation and Camp Phoenix on their website: www.kidsfoundation.org.au

Charter Night of the Rotary Club of Docklands 

When: Tuesday 23 June 2009, 7 pm for 7.30 pm

Where: Sumac, on the water at Central Pier, 161 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands (Opposite Channel 7 and Etihad Stadium)

Cost: $70 per person (2 course meal, entertainment, drinks at bar prices)

Parking: On site - drive between the two buildings ($10)

Dress: Lounge Suit

This event replaces our normal meeting on that date.  If you are able to attend, please let PE Philip know.

When: Wednesday 24 June 2009, 6.30 pm for 7 pm (concludes at 9 pm)

Where: Hilton Hotel, Melbourne Airport, Level 4

Cost: $35 per person (includes food, beverage and parking)

Parking: Park on level 2, short-term car parking.  Take lift to level 4.  Validate parking ticket at Hotel Reception when leaving.

In April our guest speaker Helen Trueman talked to us about the Ryder-Cheshire Foundation and their engagement in Klibur Domin – East Timor.

So much has been accomplished by clubs so far this year and I know that many clubs are still completing important projects this month. All this is happening while our incoming club leadership teams are busily preparing for next Rotary Year. Throw our club changeovers into the mix and it is no wonder that June is often Rotary’s busiest month of the year. ...
