THANK YOU
l would
like to most sincerely thank each and every one of our current
board members for their contribution to the board and to the club
in the past 12 months. Most importantly, I would like to thank
them for their continuing support, guidance, patience and
fellowship. They have made being president of our club
interesting and fun!
Crown has
continued to support our club and they have continued to raise the
standards. They are a vital partner to our club for our continued
success and I am most grateful to Crown and their staff for
creating a great setting for our club meetings.
I would
also like to acknowledge the support and generosity of the
Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust for their provision not
only of a venue for our regular board meetings but also for club
meetings on occasions. Of course, we are particularly excited
that our 10th Anniversary and Changeover is being held at the new
Plenary Hall.
Most
importantly, I would like to thank each and every member of the
club for their generosity and support throughout the past 12
months. Without you, there is no Rotary Club of Southbank. You
are the pillars of this wonderful club of ours and I thank you for
your contributions to the club during my year as President.
Success of
our club is not dependent on the President; it is dependent on the
members and you have all done a lot of wonderful services to the
community, making this a successful year for our club. I hope you
have had as much fun as I have had (or more) in the past 12
months. After all, Rotary is a hobby for Rotarians and what is a
hobby if we don’t enjoy it?
When you
are with Rotary, good things happen!
Yours in Rotary,
Gabe
Last Week's Meeting
The last meeting of the year had a fantastic vibe. The meeting
started with the induction of Clinton and Judy to the Rotary Club of
Southbank. When the ceremony was completed we became a club of
29 strong!
President Gabe then asked our guest and friend, George Halkias, from
The Big Issue to say a few words. George visited our club to
extend a thank you from The Big Issue for our involvement in the
Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup. We really appreciates the
gesture but the pleasure is all ours. The club is continuing
to support TBI in various ways including the running of the next
Street Soccer Victorian Camp and Championship. George
presented President Gabe with a framed photo of the Homeless World
Cup which was appreciated by all present.
Then came the sergeant's session and before we began, everyone
(except Sergeant Nick) wore a Rotary beanie, much to the amusement
of everyone present. Sergeant Nick quickly pulled out and
donned a balaclava - but only for a short while because it was a bit
warm. Then came the fines and Sergeant Nick commented on
Stuart's "blatant self promotion" by wearing his work uniform.
Stuart turned the table and challenged Sergeant Nick for failing to
fine Inspector G who was also in uniform, much to the delight of
everyone present!
Preseident Gabe presented Bobbi with a certificate of appreciation
for her fabulous work as the fellowship person for the club and
highlighted a some of the numerous event Bobbi had organised.
President Gabe also presented Bobbi with a "Croc" mobile phone
holder which Bobbi accepted with delight.
President Gabe reported to the club of what we have achieved in the
past year and we have indeed done a lot as a club, through the
efforts of all our members. President Gabe's report forms the
President's Note above so I won't repeat it here.
The meeting ended with the usual thoughts for the week.
Everyone were looking forward to our 10th Anniversary and Changeover
celebrations which I am sure would be fantastic!
