President
Philip's
Message
Just over ten years ago, when
Ann White contacted me about becoming a member of the Rotary Club of
Southbank, I really had very little idea about what being a Rotarian
meant. Nor had I any idea at the time of how fortunate I was that
Ann had called. ...

Rotary Foundation
Thought
This week’s
Rotary
Foundation Thought is about the
founder of our Foundation, Arch C. Klumph.
A member of the Rotary Club of Cleveland, Ohio,
USA, Klumph served as the RI president in the 1913-14 Rotary year.
In 1917, Klumph declared that "we should accept endowments for the
purpose of doing good in the world in charitable, educational, and
other avenues of community service." His vision and a contribution
of US$26 left over from the RI Convention helped to establish the
charitable and humanitarian arm of our organization, The Rotary
Foundation.
Due to the hard work and generosity of Rotarians worldwide, The
Rotary Foundation has improved lives for over 90 years. With ongoing
financial support, our Foundation will continue to carry on Klumph’s
dream well into our second century of service.

Charter Night of the Rotary Club of Docklands
We celebrated the charter of the newest club in the district: RC
Docklands. A contingent of Southbankers led by President
Philip attended the event.
It is wonderful to have a new cluster to join us for a new
exciting year of Rotary service!

Charter Night of
the Rotaract Club of Tullamarine
It has been at
least 10 years since our District 9800 chartered a Rotaract club.
In fact, up until 24 June 2009, our district only has one active
Rotaract Club of Balwyn (sponsored by RC North Balwyn).
It is no
wonder that RC Tullamarine, as sponsoring club of the new Rotaract
Club of Tullamarine won the district award this year for Rotaract
Club support! Congratulations to both RC Tullamarine and
Rotaract Club of Tullamarine.
The Charter
Night was a great success with an attendance of a hundred or more!
Our club was also very well represented.

DG's Changeover 27
June 2009
The DG's
Changeover was a fantastic success with a huge attendance to
celebrate the achievements of the past year under DG Jim's guidance
and to welcome DG Colin as we look forward to the 2009-2010 Rotary
year!
The highlight
for our club is, of course, the winning of 2 district awards.
For community
service: jointly with RC Melbourne, Southbank won this award for the
Homeless World Club project.
For the Public
Relations Trophy: Southbank won this award for the Gill Hicks and
Christine Nixon Luncheon and the fantastic publicity Rotary received
as a result of it.
Well done
Southbank! In case you don't know, there were only a handful
of club winning two awards. For a club our size, this a a
great achievement and we should all be very proud of it!

you.

June is Rotary
Fellowship Month
"What a Year!"
What a year... we started the year on a high when
we were fortunate to be visited by RI President DK Lee and his
wife Young Ja. DK Lee inspired us to Make Dreams Real both in our
local communities and across the globe.
I am proud to say that District 9800 has taken on
this challenge with great success. Our clubs have posted some
significant achievements this year. We should all be so proud of
the good we have done for our local and international communities
across hundreds of projects. ...
