PROGRAM

Guest Speakers: Dr Judith Slocombe.

CEO of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, Dr Judith Slocombe is renowned for the dedication and vision which has seen her achieve Australia’s most highly regarded award for women in business - the Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year.

Holding an MBA from the Melbourne Business School as well as veterinary qualifications, Judith’s work in small business saw her redefine veterinary pathology before she transitioned into the corporate world as the Group General Manager of Gribbles Group.

Managing a portfolio of Board positions, including the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, Open Universities Australia and VicHealth, as well being the Chair of the Animal Welfare League of Victoria, Judith’s success is all the more remarkable for the fact that she has achieved such professional accolades whilst raising nine children with her husband, Professor Ron Slocombe.

President Philip's Message

Last week I touched on the rewards that come from being a Rotarian, citing four that came to mind.  This week I want to add two more.

The first of the two I want to talk about is how fortunate we are that in our activities as Rotarians we have the opportunity to meet and hear from remarkable people – people who inspire us through sharing their life experiences and achievements and spur us on to emulate these.  One such person is Dr Judith Slocombe who will be our guest speaker this Tuesday.  Some of you may have heard her speak at a conference a few years ago, and I certainly have felt privileged to hear her on other occasions address the challenge of juggling priorities in a busy world.  There is no doubt when she speaks of managing a family of 9 children along with a high profile career and other activities there is little wonder she was awarded Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year. ...

Last Week's Meeting

It was always going to be a special meeting - no sergeant's session!

Arriving at Como, it was not too difficult to find where the Rotarians are - those lounging around with drinks in their hands!  It was fantastic to see so many people present.  Apart from Southbank members and other Rotarians and partners, we also had friends from and of the Ryder-Cheshire Foundation and others.  It was difficult to work out who is who but with a drink in one hand and a sandwich (or two) in the other, life is bliss! ...

September is New Generations Month
"How we are looking"

We talk a lot about what makes a good Club meeting, we often discuss Rotary protocol, program, guest speakers, the meal and of course the location or venue. During my DG visits I have attended many meetings in many different venues however, one thing that stands out when I arrive at the meeting place is the setup, the look, the feel and the ambience of the room and the sense that you have come to a warm welcoming environment. ...
