President Philip's Weekly Message
What
a fantastic night we had at the MCEC for our Family of Rotary
Christmas celebration! Thank you to all who helped to make this a
really special night.
I’m
delighted to report that around $3,000 worth of gifts collected
from SP AusNet have now been distributed to Steps and St Josephs
Mission. Both organisations were extremely grateful for this
Christmas gesture.
Please
accept my very best wishes for a safe, happy Christmas and I hope
the New Year is both prosperous and joyful. I look forward to
seeing you in 2010.
President
Philip

President Philip made a
special mention of this on the night and I repeat it here - we were
thinking of all our members who were not able to join us (yes,
including you, Acting Superintendent Michael G) and we truly missed
you all. On that thought, you can always come to our next
function at Cafe Blah Blah on 12 January 2010!
Have a safe and happy
holiday season and see you in 2010 for more fun, fellowship and
service!

Rotary Foundation
Thought

This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought
is about micro credit.
In Cuzco, Peru Rotarians contributed $10,000 to a partnering
association, Asociacion MIDE, which provided small loans to 288
low-income women. In six months these women improved their
businesses and living standards, lifting them out of extreme
poverty. While local Rotarians had the opportunity to work together
to develop the project and approve the system of loans, the
participants learned to use, administer and benefit from financial
credit. In the process, the women improved their self-esteem as they
acquired entirely new roles of financial responsibility for their
families. How do I focus my giving? Every Rotarian, Every Year
– Giving is hope in action.
