President Philip's Weekly Message

We have a very busy couple of months ahead of us and it would be great to see our Members and Friends of the Rotary Club of Southbank attend “Breakfast with the Pres”.  If you are interested, it will be this Thursday at 7 am for 7.15 am start at the Observatory Cafe, Botanical Gardens.  We seem to get a lot done at these breakfasts in resourcing projects and this coming week we will talk about work in progress on the website, the establishment of the Rotaract Club of Melbourne, the upcoming Community Service Excellence Awards, the business breakfasts, and other initiatives in Community and International Service.  Your input would be valued!

We also have “Rotary in Concert” coming up.  Chris Trueman will be sending out an invitation flyer to our Members as well as to Clubs around us, but in the meantime, here are a few of the details:

Date:  Tuesday 4th May 2010

Time:  6.00 pm for 6.30 pm start, finishing about 8.30 pm.

Venue: River Room, Crown Towers Hotel

Event: “Rotary in Concert”, a magical musical evening with the internationally acclaimed duo, Mundy Turner, who will tell/sing their singer-songwriter story in a cabaret style concert performance.

Benefit event for:  Susubeen East Timor

Cost:    $40 per head for buffet dinner (including wine) and concert performance.

Please support this wonderful event, and bring friends along too!

Have a great week in Rotary.

President Philip

Rotary Foundation Thought

This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about Health, Hunger and Humanity Grants (3H).

In Romania orphaned and ill children are consuming donated eggs, milk, meat and poultry because of a grant from The Rotary Foundation that benefits local farmers. Farmers use the grant to buy everything from animal feed to packaging materials. There is one stipulation, the farmers have to donate a portion of their products to children’s hospital, schools and orphanages. 3H grants fund large long-term international, grassroots projects. By contributing to The Rotary Foundation you are taking part in these grants. The Rotary Foundation is our Foundation; it is critical that we take ownership of it and do what we can to change and save lives.
