We have
a very busy couple of months ahead of us and it would be great to
see our Members and Friends of the Rotary Club of Southbank attend
“Breakfast with the Pres”. If you are interested, it will be this
Thursday at 7 am for 7.15 am start at the Observatory Cafe,
Botanical Gardens. We seem to get a lot done at these breakfasts
in resourcing projects and this coming week we will talk about
work in progress on the website, the establishment of the Rotaract
Club of Melbourne, the upcoming Community Service Excellence
Awards, the business breakfasts, and other initiatives in
Community and International Service. Your input would be valued!
We also
have “Rotary in Concert” coming up. Chris Trueman will be sending
out an invitation flyer to our Members as well as to Clubs around
us, but in the meantime, here are a few of the details:

for 6.30 pm start, finishing about 8.30 pm.
Venue: River
Room, Crown Towers Hotel
Event: “Rotary
in Concert”, a magical musical evening with the internationally
acclaimed duo, Mundy Turner, who will tell/sing their
singer-songwriter story in a cabaret style concert performance.
Benefit event
for: Susubeen East Timor
Cost: $40
per head for buffet dinner (including wine) and concert
performance.

Melbourne
Summer Cycle - Troy
Troy spoke on
a successful day for the Melbourne Summer Cycle to raise money for
MS Society. Over 5000 people participated in the 40 km cycle
including the opportunity to ride over the Westgate bridge.
6 members of
RC Southbank participated and between them raised over $3100 (Philip
over $1700!) The entire event raised more than $590,000. Well done
all!

has been secured as the key headline act.
Lord Mayors
Charitable Foundation is the key sponsor of the event and will help
promote the event among 50 key community groups. Nominations for
the awards in 7 categories will be received and winners in each
category will win $20,000 (each award to be sponsored by
companies). Sponsorships for the individual categories are still
available.
Tables of 10
will cost $1500 and we are expecting to fill 35 tables of 10.
Special thanks
to Chris, Stuart, Gordon, Clinton & Barbara so far for assistance in
organising this event. Website design and support is also being
provided by Disegno.
David de
Kretser, A.C., Governor of Victoria will also be the patron for the
event.

Club of Melbourne City is being proposed – ages 18-30 – Stuart
Cardell / Narina and others are working on this project and visits

for the RYLA camp – more details to come…
Friends of
Rotary – Troy
A successful
night was held last week for the launch of this program. 25-30
potential friends attended with 4-5 so far committing to become a
friend of Rotary. The next meeting will be on 16/03. Cost is $50 /
year to join (free for partners of Rotarians.)
Xanana
Vocational Education Trust
Chris has
recently spoken to the Rotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin who is a
big supporter of this program about the Susubeen program.
